How to Create the Perfect Instagram to Stand Out to Brands

These days, you don’t need 100,000, 50,000 or even 10,000 followers to get a brand to notice your account on Instagram. As the popularity of influencer marketing continues to develop, brands are beginning to look at a wider range of metrics to determine an influencer’s true…influence. It’s no longer about quantity, but more the quality of your content, the legitimacy of your following and how they engage with your posts.

Here are some Reaction Lab tips in perfecting your Instagram and increasing your following to ensure that your account won’t go unnoticed by brands.

Sponsorships and collaborating with brands is great, but it’s important to remember who you’re posting for – your followers. For 37% of consumers, authenticity is the most important thing about sponsored posts (Influencer Marketing Hub, 2019). Staying authentic and relatable is the key to maintaining your following and your sponsorships.

Influencer marketing is rooted in authentic recommendation. If brands can see that your feed is saturated with sponsored posts, it can be an instant red flag.

Connect with Followers

Brands look for an influencer with a committed following, and you can’t expect to build a following on Instagram without interacting with them. Replying to comments under your posts and DMs that you receive is the best way to show your followers that you’re listening.

Posting stories is the perfect way for your audience to get to know you, along with posting content more frequently without clogging your feed. Make sure to get interactive; audiences love Q&As and polls!

An aesthetically pleasing Instagram feed is the first thing anyone will see when they visit your profile. It’s often the deciding factor on converting a browser into a follower, or whether a brand would like to get in contact with you. By showcasing a seamless aesthetic that reflects your own personality and brand, it enables you to reach your target audience.

Although creating a cohesive theme is important, it’s also essential that you don’t focus too much on the grid. Eva Chen, the director of fashion partnerships at Instagram recently told Vogue – “Ok so people get really obsessed with the grid, they get really addicted to the fact that their grid is perfect. Here’s the real deal when it comes to your Instagram grid: probably 99 per cent of Instagram impressions come from the feed. So it’s more important to create great posts! Lose the obsession with the grid, relax a little and post what interests you.”

Find your niche

Nowadays, there are Instagram accounts for absolutely everything. Check out this woman from Japan who has dedicated an entire Instagram page to the mess her husband makes at home, amassing almost 600k followers – we literally mean anything.

This is the perfect example of how unique content can generate an immense following and in turn attract global attention from brands.

Utilise relevant hashtags

Hashtags are a great way to expand your audience and increase the reach of your content. Instagram has limited the number of hashtags you can use to 30 per post, which means you have to be smart in choosing which ones to include. For example, posting the French toast you had at brunch and including #food won’t work – no one will find you amongst the millions of posts under that hashtag.

Instead, keep your hashtags relevant and specific. Do some research to find popular hashtags that are used in the foodie community or choose from the hashtags that Instagram will suggest when you begin typing a hashtag on your caption.
